Hi my name is Sarah and I have a beautiful 2 year old who was diagnosed with albinism at the age of 9 months. Since then my husband and I have struggled emotionally to understand what this would mean for her future. We finally decided to get her registered as sight impaired and agreed as we were paying out for new glasses every 3 months amongst other specialist items, we would apply for disability care allowance.
We were refused due to Bella’s age. We believe this is wrong as Bella needs more care and attention than of a normal sighted 2 year old. We tried to appeal their decision but have had no success. We have spoken to the visual impairment team who also believe this decision is wrong.
Has anyone else had trouble applying for DLA due to their child being too young?
If anyone has any suggestions or support it would be greatly received, as I am currently pregnant with my second girl, who will also have a chance of having the same condition.
